About the Book

A Great Gift for Dad and retirees with over 70 instructional photos & diagrams! I did it! I shot my age in golf-and you can too! This book is for you, a retired "Super Senior" golfer who is 65+ years old and really wants to accomplish the amazing goal of shooting your age in golf. With the help of my co-author, Mike Hogan, PGA Teaching Professional, I, at age 74 with a handicap of 15+, accomplished it twice in my first year of retirement. Since then, I have shot my age, or better, 32 times with a best round of 69. You can do it too! Mike and I will show you how. In this book we will provide recommendations and technical advice for seniors on all aspects of golf, including mental and physical preparation, the long and short game, practice, on-course management, and equipment. "You do not hit the ball with your backswing! Slow it down! Your backswing is all about proper position of the club with your wrists cocked to swing inside-out with acceleration through-not "at" the ball. Holding your wrist-cock as long as possible before impact combined with a full follow-through increases your clubhead speed and shot distance." - from Chapter 5, "The Long Game" "My most important specific putting recommendation is to get the ball to the hole. There is a familiar and accurate saying that "100% of short putts don't go in." A putt left short is an opportunity lost forever! Aim at a spot 12-18 inches beyond the hole-it will result in more putts reaching the hole, and more putts made." - from Chapter 6, "The Short Game"
About the Author: Gary McClure My love of golf began in Kansas at age 11 when my mother was taking group lessons from the high school golf coach. I collected range balls from the women who were hitting them under the guidance of the coach and he gave me complimentary lessons. I then started caddying for people who were playing the public nine-hole course and was paid with tips and free golf. In the summer my friends and I frequently walked and played 36 holes a day in temperatures over 100 degrees. Ben Hogan was my hero having won the PGA Championship in 1946, the first of his nine Majors. In college at the US Naval Academy I played no golf but started again after graduation with other Naval Officers in the Norfolk, Virginia area. After leaving the Navy to pursue an MBA at Dartmouth College, golf was restricted to only three-five months of acceptable weather. After completing the MBA, I commenced an international business career, which lasted for the next 25 years but provided limited opportunity for golf. During that time I worked abroad for ten years, living in England, France, Germany, and Kuwait. Following my retirement, I moved back to Florida, met my co-author, Mike Hogan, and now play golf year-round-highly recommended for Super Senior Golfers! Mike Hogan, PGA Teaching Profesional Being a relative of Ben Hogan, winner of golf's "Grand Slam," it is no surprise I was attracted to and have made a career in professional golf. To date I have given more than 20,000 lessons, clinics, and classes over 30 years of golf teaching experiences. During that time I have also competed in professional tournament golf for twelve years and have been an official PGA Teaching Professional since 1999. My co-author, Gary McClure, has been a student since his retirement at age 74. During Gary's first year he made significant progress and was able to successfully achieve a lifetime goal of "shooting his age in golf." Last year we realized that many other retirees would like to do the same. With this goal in mind we launched a collaborative project to provide effective professional advice to golfers over the age of 65. The result has been the creation and publication of this book dedicated to Super Senior Golfers who want to shoot lower scores and shoot their age in golf. FORE!
