LAURENCE BERMAN is a pianist and Associate Professor of Music at the University of Massachusetts in Boston, where he gives courses in the history and theory of music. His areas of academic specialization include turn-of-the-century French music aswell as music aesthetics and criticism, and he has published articles on composers, most frequently Debussy, in reference books, journals, and essay collections.
