John A Ryle
John A. Ryle (1890-1950) did his training at Guy's hospital and became one of London's leading elite clinicians in the 1930s. He was appointed Regius Professor of Physic at Cambridge Univeristy in 1936, but resigned to take up an appointent as the first director of the newly created Institute of Social Medicine at Oxford University in 1942.
