He was the son of Olive Augusta Fenno and Horatio Alger Sr., a Unitarian pastor. On July 18, 1899, he passed away at his sister's house in Ntick, Massachusetts. His passing was almost unnoticed. Stratemeyer. was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, the sixth child and youngest of Henry Julius Stratemeyer and Anna Siegel. In 1890, Stratemeyer relocated to Newark, New Jersey, and started a paper business. He continued to compose articles under aliases while running his business. On March 25, 1891, he wed Magdalena Van Camp, a businessman's daughter from Newark.
